There's no stopping winter

Discover the story behind our Fall Winter 2025 collection

I can't think of a better place to pass the dark winter than sultry Africa. That’s why Olle and I recently set off for Hoedspruit, where we’d spend a few nights surrounded by nature.

We arrived at a charming wooden lodge, and with a mix of excitement and curiosity, I opened the doors. I looked around. Inside, warm blankets and quilts were draped over the chairs – a reminder that even in sunny Africa, the nights can carry a chill. As I stood there, I heard it: the distant, majestic roar of a lion. “Hello, Africa,” I whispered to myself.

The next morning, we met up with Paulo, a seasoned guide with a sturdy, mud-streaked jeep. I tossed my loaded bags into the back, and we set off. The dry landscape was cast in a golden glow of early sunlight. To my delight, birds with sweeping tails sat quietly in the trees. Monkeys darted about, eyeing me mischievously. "Watch your things," Paulo grinned. "They’re cheeky little thieves."

By the time we returned to the lodge, I was exhausted but happy. I collapsed onto the bed, already in my pyjamas, admiring the vibrant African prints on the bedding and the pretty bathrobes neatly hung for us in the bathroom. “Why only three nights?” I thought, wishing we had more time.

The wild nature had been breathtaking, but what I cherished most were the long evenings in our lodge. Olle would sit at the old piano, playing his homemade tunes, while I lit the candles in their holders. I set the table with seasonal plates I found in the cupboards and poured myself a cup of tea.

As I looked around the lodge, memories of home and holiday traditions with my family filled my mind. I realised that winter, no matter where I am, isn’t something to escape but to celebrate—grandly.

With love from Pip
